SUMMARY:International Women's Strike NYC: Rally and March on March 8th
DESCRIPTION:On March 8th\, the International Women’s Strike NYC – a coalition representing dozens of grassroots groups and labor organizations – is organizing a number of actions in support of labor campaigns\, migrants’ rights\, Sanctuary Campus campaigns\, and others.\nAt 4 PM there will be a rally in Washington Square Park.\nThe rally will open with an artistic performance created by Alejandra Ballón Gutiérrez (Arequipa\, Peru 1975)\, “La Alfombra Roja”\, and songs by Mexican singers Renee Ghoust and Liah Alonso. “La Alfombra Roja” project was created to make visible the terrible effects of patriarchal relations on women’s lives. Among the forms of violence that affect women\, it was used to denounce the criminal policies of forced sterilization of indigenous women\, carried out in the Nineties by the then-President of Peru\, Alberto Fujimori: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kw_4d2pL9Q.\n At 5:30 PM we will march to Zuccotti Park. The march will make some stops along the way\, with performances in front of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory site\, the Varick Street Immigration Detention Center\, Stonewall\, City Hall\, the African Burial Ground and the former slave market\, financial institutions funding the Dakota Access Pipeline\, and others.\nJoin us in this great day of action!

DESCRIPTION:Muslims for Peace\, Inc. requests your presence at the 10th Annual Prophet Muhammad (s) Day Conference on Sunday\, March 5th\, 2017 at 2:00 PM. This event will be held in the Busch Campus Center Multipurpose Room (604 Bartholomew Road\, Piscataway Township\, NJ 08854).\nThe 10th Annual Prophet Muhammad (s) Day event will focus on the current state of political affairs in the country\, calling for awareness\, concern\, and action to combat racism and bigotry of Muslims. By now\, everyone has heard of the current Muslim Ban being placed on citizens and residents of seven prominent Muslim countries. Right now\, this ban targets Muslims and shows the embedded racism and hatred of Muslims in the current leadership. Let us empower ourselves and have our voices heard. #NoBanNoWall\nSpeakers:\nTulsi Gabbard\, Congresswoman of Hawaii’s 2nd District\nFrom a very young age\, Tulsi has shown a passion for public service. Her commitment to serving the community and making a positive impact has influenced every major decision in her life. Her service has included working with at-risk youth\, joining the Hawai`i National Guard and deploying twice to the Middle East\, being elected to the Hawai`i State Legislature and the Honolulu City Council\, having the honor of serving Hawai`i’s people in the U.S. Senate as legislative aide to Senator Daniel K. Akaka\, continuing her ongoing work and leadership on environmental issues and projects\, and now serving in Congress as the Representative for Hawai`i’s 2nd Congressional District.\nMehdi Hasan\, Journalist at Al Jazeera America\nMehdi Hasan is an award-winning British journalist\, broadcaster\, author and political commentator. He is the presenter of both UpFront (filmed in Washington DC) and Head to Head (filmed at the Oxford Union). He moved to Al Jazeera from the Huffington Post UK where he was political director. He has been named one of the 100 ‘most influential’ Britons on Twitter\, and was included in the annual global list of ‘The 500 Most Influential Muslims’ in the world (‘The Muslim 500’). His debate-winning speech at the Oxford Union on Islam and peace went viral online\, amassing more than two million views. SUMMARY:People's March for Education Justice - NYC
DESCRIPTION:When public education is under attack?\nWhat do we do?\nStand up fight back!\nOn March 4\, students\, teachers\, parents and community members across New York State will come together for the People’s March for Education Justice.\nWe’ll start at Trump Tower 725 5th Avenue and make our way to Governor Cuomo’s offices at 633 3rd Ave! \nAs we continue to defend public education \nfrom federal attacks by Donald Trump and Betsy \nDeVos\, we march to defend here in New York from Governor Andrew Cuomo. The public investment he proposes in his education budget this year is woefully inadequate and falls way short of being equitable. It will negatively impact our most vulnerable students from early child care to higher education all across the state. Black\, brown\, immigrant\, refugee\, low-income\, LGBTQIA\, English Language Learners\, homeless students and students with disabilities\, are worthy of an investment that will meet their needs not deny them opportunities to be successful.\n· We march to demand that Governor\n Cuomo finally fully funds the $4.3 billion owed to public statewide as a result of the Campaign for Fiscal Equity including the $1.9 billion owed NYC\n· We march to Raise the Age and end the \ncriminalization of our youth\, we should be able to provide social workers and other nurturing and committed support staff in schools for struggling youth\n· We march to end the state’s over-reliance on high stakes testing\n· We march to demand that NYS invests on the front end in childcare and pre-K and invests in truly making SUNY and CUNY free for all on the back end in order to ensure successful transition to adulthood.\n· \nWe march because we need a Governor in NYS who is not afraid to make the super rich pay just 1% more by extending and expanding the millionaire’s tax and closing corporate tax loopholes\, which could bring billions to fund high quality education for all and so much more.\n\n· We march because the rhetoric of\nGovernor Cuomo and Trump attacking public education is almost indiscernible as they both have\n called public schools “a monopoly” and\nhave both push school privatization through vouchers and privately-run charter schools.\nWe will be releasing more of our platform as we closer to the march. We only have until the end of March\, when the budget is finalized to have an impact.\n If you were inspired by the historic Womens March like we were\, march with us to answer the call for 10 Actions in 100 Days
