Citizen's Town Hall in New Jersey's 3rd Congressional District

February 22, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Constituents of the NJ’s third congressional district are invited to be a part of a citizens’ town hall, organized by fellow constituents and co-sponsored by New Jersery Citizen Action and South Jersey NOW – Alice Paul Chapter.
In the tele-town hall that Congressman Tom MacArthur hosted on Monday Feb 13th, he was asked by a constituent why he refuses to hold an in-person event so that his constituents can be seen and heard by their representative. His response included accusations of paid protesters and people from outside the district being brought in to hijack and disrupt town halls. And because of the nature of a telephone town hall, or a radio call-in show (like the one he has scheduled for Thursday Feb 23rd), his constituents do not have the opportunity to follow up on his responses. The Congressman knows that there are a lot of people in his district who have expressed interest in an in-person event, but he knows that if he meets his constituents face-to-face, he can be called out on responses like the ones he gave at the tele-town hall. And he lacks the evidence needed to support such claims.
We, the constituents of District 3, deserve an opportunity to speak with our congressman. We want to show him that we are peaceful, respectful, intelligent, informed, and concerned. We are not agitators brought in from outside the district, and we are certainly not being paid to participate in democracy. We are the people who live in this district, and he is supposed to represent us.
So, Congressman MacArthur has been invited to attend a town hall organized by his constituents. We need to show him how much we care about what Congress is doing. We need to show him that the people he represents are not to be feared, we are to be respected and valued. We deserve to be seen and heard. And we have questions that deserve to be answered.
Everyone who attends will have the opportunity to submit a question to the congressman. There will be an opportunity to ask your question live at the town hall or to write you question down. All written and spoken questions will be delivered to Congressman MacArthur’s Marlton office on March 1st.
The event organizers are prepared for an event with or without the participation of the Congressman. But we hope that he comes. So please show your interest in this event, and let us know if you are planning on coming. SHARE THIS EVENT! Tell your friends, co-workers, and neighbors that their presence is needed. Whether you have a question prepared or not, we need you to show up so that the Congressman sees just how many people feel like his avoidance of his constituents is unacceptable.
