Join Flipping Districts for our first meeting of the year to learn about the state of play in key NJ Congressional Districts and the importance of passing the NJ Democracy Act in 2018 which will improve access to the ballot.
The crucial November mid-term elections are now only nine months away. At our meeting, we’ll review the current situation in key New Jersey Congressional races, including:
· NJ11, where Rodney Frelinghuysen recently announced his retirement after more than 20 years of representing the district. It’s always easier to win an open seat! Even so, Cook Political Report has kept this race classified as a “toss up” – suggesting it’s still likely to be highly competitive.
· NJ7, where Leonard Lance will face one of seven people running in a crowded field for the Democratic nomination. The Democratic candidates will face off in a primary on June 5.
Come and discuss these and other key races and talk through priorities for our group for the next nine months.
Once we talk through these races, we’ll spend the last part of our meeting writing letters to our state legislators to encourage them to pass the Democracy Act. This pending legislation will allow for early in-person voting, online registration, and other reforms to make it easier to vote in New Jersey. This important legislation will help ensure a high turnout in these key Congressional races later this year. We’ll have everything you’ll need for your letters, including supplies, addresses, and talking points.
